We’re officially “on holiday”, that is, Daddy is home from work, but we haven’t gone away. We’ve had a series of day-trips, but probably the most educational episode this week has been the impromptu lesson in real-life work provided by workmen installing water-pipes in our street.

The children were enthralled, and the kind workmen were charmed by their enthusiastic questions and told them all about why and how they do their job. It was even hands-on: the children were allowed up close and even helped put the earth back in the hole.
